Scouting Centenary Event

Centenary of Scouting 2007G.M.W. Scout County Rally

'Passage Of Time' 25th - 27th May 2007

In 2007, the Scouting movement celebrated its worldwide Centenary. Over the bank Holiday weekend of 25-28th May, Scout groups throughout the UK staged Centenary Camps. Northwest ARC were one of three local radio clubs in the Greater Manchester region that ran a Special Event station on the weekend of 25th to 27th May 2007 to commemorate 100 years of Scouting.

GB1COS   Centenary Of Scouting

The other clubs involved were

Warrington ARC - GB5COS Centenary Of Scouting

West Manchester RC - GB4COS Centenary Of Scouting

The location of our event was Bispham Hall Scout Estate, Billinge. See map below. VHF and HF communications were successfully established wiith SSTV mode on 14.230 MHz..

Saturday was a busy day with no fewer than 185 Scouts passing through the tent. Communications between sites performed well on 2 metres enabling the scouts to communicate greetings with each other.  Good contacts were also made into Europe on 20 metres.

Sunday was wet as predicted meaning fewer scouts came to visit us. The free time was put to good use to work the radios but unfortunately the inclement weather also dampened the working conditions. Amongst the many contacts into Europe we did have one contact into North America but the QSO faded and contact was lost.

Good contact was made with Southport and District ARC running special event station GB1HYS and also a scout station in Cumbria whose call sign escapes me at the moment. Both stations gave good inter-site communications with scouts passing greeting messages.
